Thermal Paste

It appears that most of “YLOD” problems are caused by the thermal paste used inside the PS3 and that can cause the console to turn on for about 3 or 4 seconds and then shuts down, a fix PS3 is needed, and It doesn't actually boot up on the screen, and I would be very worried about opening the console, as it will completely void the warranty with Sony by removing the sticker but if I attempt to repair it myself or get someone else to the can tear it up even more and Sony would never fix it. Thus leaving me with a $600 paperweight.

If you are a 60GB Playstation 3 consumer and it starts to break down after a year you might be able to get a up to date replacement model if you ring Playstation Customer services and fix PS3, and explain your circumstances, you will need the Batch and Serial number usually on the back of the console they will try and sort out the problem over the phone but if they can't you might have to send the console to them.

Sony say that "YLOD" is to symbolise a malfunction on the console, but the technicians featured on BBC s consumer programme "Watchdog “ in Sept 09 failed to mention the underlining issue of the console. In fact some of the repaired consoles still broke down after the initial repair was undertaken to fix PS3.

So, what to do if you see the the yellow light, the yellow light of death is like the “Red Ring Of Death” on Xbox but doesn’t happen as often as it does on Xbox.

Some people try to sell you the "hair dryer" method, but I recommend you don't use the hair dryer method, its a good way to ruin your PS3 even more and start a fire. A friend told me that I can take the PS3 apart and fix it with a $40 heat gun and put about 700-800 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 seconds on each the GPU and CPU. After the motherboard cools, make sure you apply new thermal paste on the GPU and CPU when you put it all back together. This will fix PS3 for about 1 week, just enough time to get your data backed up.

There are YouTube videos that say they have the knowledge to assist, but for my money I would rather use the new online companies that not only give you all the information and advice you need, but allow YOU to repair at home for a much lesser price, plus they have customer service too. Sounds the best deal for me.

If I send Sony but I doubt that I will get my PS3 back, as its more likely to be a refurbished unit that belonged to someone else, and I'm so disappointed with Sony, I did not think that they would follow in Microsoft footstep and put out a product that had such a short life because of internal problems, just so that you will have to buy a new system. If only Nintendo had games for adults.
